Use cases

Every decision that commits capital, on one book.

Capibud is used wherever money is committed to physical assets: sanctioning plants, backing ventures, recovering projects in construction and funding this year's capex lines. Every use case runs on the same correlated scenarios, so the committee can weigh them against one envelope and one risk appetite.

Four decisions, one committee, one record. The use cases on this page are product capabilities, shown on illustrative examples with invented figures and on demo workspaces built from synthetic data. Capibud has no published client case studies yet; every example says what it is built from.

By decision

Eight jobs Capibud does

Four of them are capital decisions. The other four are what make those decisions hold up: a committee that sees them together, a monitoring layer that watches them, a reader for the files they rest on and a record that lets anyone replay them.

EvaluateFID and stage-gates

P10, P50 and P80 capex, schedule and NPV for each option and each size, on scenarios shared with the rest of the book. The value of building now, staging, deferring or walking away is priced, not argued.

Explore Evaluate

Which projects deserve capital, at what size, and what is waiting worth?

InvestCorporate venture and funds

Ticket sizes and follow-on reserves inside concentration limits, stage-by-stage survival, exits that follow a power law, and a clear split between value that comes from strategy and value that comes from the exit.

Explore Invest

Which companies or assets do we back, with how much, and what do we hold in reserve?

ExecuteRecovering projects in construction

P80 cost and finish for every unit, updated from actuals each month. Contractor dates are checked against the forecast, recovery options are priced in money and previewed, and change orders follow your authority matrix.

Explore Execute

Which projects are drifting, what will they really cost, and which recovery option works?

CapexThe annual small-project portfolio

A plan for a hundred or more sustaining, HSE, reliability and margin lines that fits the envelope, respects crew capacity and turnaround windows, meets every statutory deadline and shows what each deferral costs.

Explore Capex

Which of our small projects get funded this year, and what does deferring the rest cost?

Capital committeeOne pooled plan across decisions

Every candidate from the four decisions on one envelope and one risk appetite, beside today's separate plans on the same money. The shock that would break the plan, its return period and the thresholds that would change the answer.

Explore the committee

If every budget holder's list met on one table, what would we fund?

The brainContinuous monitoring and tripwires

A scheduled layer that notices a market move, filing or actual, finds the exposed projects, prices the effect, drafts a proposal, verifies it in a sandbox and queues it for the right person. Nothing changes until someone approves.

How the brain works

What changed since the committee met, and does it matter to anything we approved?

IngestionReading un-templated files

Workbooks with several tables per sheet, memos with tracked changes, steering decks and scanned letters, read as they are. Every value keeps its cell, slide or page line, and low-confidence values wait for a person.

See the platform

Can we use the files we already have, without a template project first?

Decision recordAudit and post-decision review

An append-only, hash-chained log. Each run stores digests of its inputs, parameters and output with its seed and engine version, so any decision can be replayed to an identical result and reviewed against what happened.

Read about the record

Two years on, can we show exactly what we knew and why we chose what we chose?

Who uses it

Where Capibud lives in their week

Capital decisions have many readers and few builders. These are the four groups who work in Capibud most often, and the moments in their week when they open it.

CFO and capex committee

Where Capibud lives in their week

  • Before committee: the decision pack, with the pooled plan beside the separate plans on the same money and the alternatives the committee could still choose.
  • In committee: the shock that would break the plan, its estimated return period and the thresholds that would change the recommendation.
  • Midweek: a tripwire proposal in the queue, priced in money, with its evidence and a calibrated confidence, waiting for approval or rejection.
  • Quarter end: the record of what was approved, the run it relied on, and how outcomes are tracking against it.

Project controls, PMO and project directors

Where Capibud lives in their week

  • Monthly close: cost ledgers and progress reports go in as exported; P80 cost and finish update for every unit.
  • Weekly: contractor-reported milestone dates checked against Capibud's P50 and P80, with drift between reports flagged.
  • When a unit slips: recovery options such as a second shift or crew moves priced in money and previewed against crew ceilings before commitment.
  • Change orders routed by the authority matrix, with pending claims simulated against remaining contingency.

Corporate venture, investment committee and fund teams

Where Capibud lives in their week

  • Pipeline review: diligence scorecards move each company's survival odds, and the move is shown rather than asserted.
  • Deal sizing: ticket and structure inside single-name, sector and stage limits, with reserves set against follow-on demand at P80.
  • Investment committee: a memo routed by ticket size, separating strategic value from the financial return.
  • When markets move: carbon price, funding cycle or commodity shocks re-price the whole book, not one deal at a time.

Strategy and corporate planning

Where Capibud lives in their week

  • Stage-gate preparation: P10, P50 and P80 capex, schedule and NPV for each option and size, from a researched industry baseline.
  • Option framing: what waiting, staging or abandoning is worth, and which plants compete for the same feed, plot or grid connection.
  • Assumption tests: swap a flat demand line for a tracked capacity pipeline and see the portfolio and its bad year move.
  • Annual planning: the envelope, the split between sustaining and growth, and the plan the committee will see.

One decision, end to end

The use cases are stages of the same loop

1ReadIngestion turns the files you already have into values with a source: a cell, a slide, a page line. Low-confidence values wait for review.
2RangeEvaluate, Invest, Execute and Capex price every option as a P50, P80 and P90 range on up to 16 shared factors.
3SizeThe capital committee solves the whole book for the highest expected value within a chosen risk appetite.
4DecideChanges are previewed, routed by your delegation of authority with maker-checker, and applied only on final approval.
5WatchThe brain checks tripwires against live data and queues priced proposals. A person approves every change.
6ReplayThe record stores every run with its inputs, seed and engine version, so the decision can be replayed and reviewed later.
